97.1 FM Nipissing, Ontario, is a new radio station that will offer an adult pop music format on a frequency of 97.1 MHz (FM) in West Nipissing, Ontario, Canada, serving the Sturgeon Falls-North Bay area. Owned by Le5 Communications, the station received CRTC approval on January 6, 2011.[1]
This station will air a similar format to Le5's CHYC-FM in Sudbury and CHYK-FM in Timmins. It will be the first commercial French-language radio station licensed in Ontario since the launch of CHYC-FM's original AM incarnation, CFBR, in 1957; apart from the three Le5 stations, all other French radio stations in Ontario are non-commercial outlets owned by non-profit community radio groups or Radio-Canada.
The call sign and launch date for the new radio station has yet to be announced.[2]
